A 60-year-old man has been charged for raping a 13-year-old girl at a logging camp in West Makira.
It was alleged that the suspect had invited the victim with her aunty to spend the night with him, and he allegedly raped the victim after having beer with them.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai, said the defendant took advantage of the drinking situation and forced the victim to have sexual intercourse with him.
Buala police have arrested eight suspects during an investigation operation on Hograno, Katova, Kia, and Havulei (HKKH) constituencies in Isabel province recently.
The nine-day investigation operation was targeted for new reported cases during the month of October 2024.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Isabel Province, Inspector Harry Vanosi, said a total of eight new cases were registered and completed during the investigation operation, while one case is still active on investigation.
Buala police is calling on those who intend to operate bottle shops in the province to obtain a liquor license from the Isabel Provincial Government Revenue Payment Unit (IPGRPU) through its application process before operation.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department (EODD) will conduct a Render Safe Procedure (RSP) for one of the live bombs found at Hatanga Construction site at Tinge Ridge area, West Honiara, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
Acting Director of EODD, Staff Sergent (SSgt) Peter Ririvere, said the task will be carried out at the Hatanga construction site and will be active from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Three suspects have been convicted during a court circuit hearing at Malu’u substation in north Malaita, while four suspects are on trial for the next court circuit hearing.
A total of seven cases were on trial from 20 to 24 October 2024 during the Auki Principal Magistrates’ Court visit at Malu’u substation.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has officially opened a new library in its academy on 24th October – thanks to the support of the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
The RSIPF’s Assistant Commissioner (Corporate Support), Stanley Riolo, said the library is a long outstanding project for the RSIPF and he is pleased that it has finally become a reality.
The establishment of a library was first considered in 2018 with a dedicated space being allocated within the Academy for this purpose.

Auki police have arrested and charged a 38-year-old male suspect after he assaulted a 17-year-old girl in the Kilufii area on 29 October 2024.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province Chief Superintendent Tex Tafoa said the suspect allegedly assaulted the young girl early this year because he believes she was involved by influencing his niece to go out during night-time.”
PPC Tafoa said during the assault the victim sustained injuries to her face, and she felt unconscious on the ground and later rushed to Kilufii Hospital for medical treatment.
Three officers from Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Learning and Development recently travelled to Australia as part of an exchange program to support the design of the RSIPF’s Career and Leadership Development Framework.
The AFP, through the RSIPF-AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) supported members from the Leadership Training Team to travel to AFP offices in Canberra and Brisbane to identify concepts and processes which could be implemented to support the RSIPF’s emerging leaders.
