The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) has stepped up its security operations for the current parliament meeting and in preparation for the Motion of No Confidence (MoNC) next week.

Police will be working closely with local communities in Honiara to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for all citizens.

Police is closely monitoring the current political situation and appeals to everyone to stay calm and allow our leaders to do their business.

Tulagi Police have arrested a male suspect for assaulting his wife at Toga village in Central Province recently.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent David Soakai, said the arrest came about after the wife reported his husband to the police for smoking marijuana.

PPC Soakai said it was alleged that the suspect got angry, grabbed a wooden paddle and struck his wife on her leg, and she escaped.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has formally welcomed the new Commander for the RSIPF & Australian Federal Police (AFP) Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP), Commander Hall O’Meagher.

Commander O’Meagher will replace Commander Heath Davies who will complete his deployment under RAPPP in mid-2025.

Commander O’Meagher is currently in Honiara on a month visit to familiarise himself with the new environment that he will be working under for couple of years.

Tulagi police have arrested a catechist at the Bola community in Central Province for disturbance during Easter weekend recently.

It was alleged that the catechist disturbed, threatened, and assaulted and used abusive words during the program while the Bola community gathered for their program.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province Superintendent David Soakai said the suspect has been disturbing the church service in the community, which leads to the cancellation of the church program.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) and China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) have successfully completed four days of awareness talks at schools and communities in Western Province.

NCPD and CPLT officers visited five schools, including Reginald Chapman Nicholson College, Goldie College and Ringi School.

Students were taught and informed of the Five Drivers of Crime: Illegal Alcohol and Drugs, Family Violence, Issues Affecting Youth, Resources and Environment and Emerging Issues, and Offences and Their Penalties.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF)’s fitness trainer, Hency Charles, has encouraged women and girls to take good care of themselves by prioritising their health and wellbeing.

Hency is another local contracted by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to support the RSIPF & AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP).

His role in the RAPPP’s Health and Wellbeing Project is to support RSIPF officers to boost their fitness.

Executive members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the RSIPF & Australian Federal Police (AFP) Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) farewelled two RAPPP advisors this month.

In a ceremony held at the RSIPF headquarters to bid farewell to advisors Steve Malam and Kate Weaver, the RSIPF Commissioner, Mostyn Mangau, said both advisors have done a lot for the RSIPF.

Taro police have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect for intimidation and threatening violence at Vurango village recently.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Berry Pogesopa, said it was alleged that the suspect intimidates people at Vurango village with a bush knife and threatens to kill them.

PPC Pogesopa said it was further alleged that the suspect also had a firearm with him which, later when arrested and searched, police found out was an imitation firearm only.

Taro police have arrested a 32-year-old male suspect for burning down a kitchen house at Tangibangara village in northeast Choiseul.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Barry Pogesopa, said, “It was alleged that on 9 April 2025, a male suspect, without any reason, went armed with a knife and threatened the entire village and burnt down the kitchen.”

PPC Pogesopa said, "The community members attempted to stop him; however, they could not manage to do so due to his threat and aggressiveness.”

Taro police have arrested a female suspect for brewing homebrew at a village in south Choiseul recently.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province Superintendent Berry Pogesopa said, “Police responded to the incident and arrested a 46-year-old female suspect on 2 April 2025."

PPC Pogesopa said, “The suspect was dealt with and charged with two counts under the Liquor Act. The female suspect will appear before Taro Court Circuit on a later date.”
