The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) is appealing to the general public for calm and business as usual during the election of the new prime minister on 15 May 2026.

The appeal came after three candidates had been nominated for the prime ministership position on Friday this week.

The Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF), Mr. Ian Vaevaso, has urged 105 new recruits to serve with integrity and passion during the official opening program today (11 May 2026) at Rove Police Headquarters.

The program was attended by the Minister of Police, National Security, and Correctional Services, Hon. Jimson Fiau Tanangada; RSIPF executives; and security partners.

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) is stepping up its security arrangement for the parliament meeting, which will happen tomorrow (7 May 2026).

During an operation brief today (6 May 2026), RSIPF Commissioner Mr. Ian Vaevaso says, “Police have stepped up their security operations and business as usual. Schools will continue on with normal classes.

Commissioner Vaevaso says, “Your police-RSIPF has been working closely with local communities in Honiara to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for all citizens.”

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department (EODD) has undertaken urgent response operations in Western and Choiseul Provinces following reports of World War II-era explosive ordnances being exposed along coastal areas in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone (TC) Maila.

These hazardous items, long embedded in coastal and marine environments since World War II, were dislodged and brought to the surface by the strong wave action, storm surges, and coastal erosion caused by the cyclone.

The Royal Solomon Island Police (RSIPF) is strengthening its commitment to professional, accountable, and community-focused policing through the modernization of its Operational Safety Training (OST) program.

As part of this initiative, RSIPF, with support from the Australian Federal Police (AFP), has been updating its OST manual to reflect contemporary policing standards, reinforce ethical decision-making, and support the responsible use of force.

The revised approach aligns with an emphasis on public approval, fairness, and maintaining public trust.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) was concerned about the publication of unconfirmed facts, checking before they were posted and shared on social media platforms recently.

These posts, circulated over the past several weeks, appear intended to damage the reputation of the RSIPF and its dedicated officers.

The RSIPF is concerned by the spread of misleading information that lacks factual substance. Such activities weaken public trust between the community and RSIPF.

A crocodile killed a 22-year-old girl from Paunanu’u village at the Wairaha River mouth in West Are’are during a fishing trip on 3 April 2026.

The deceased was sitting at the rear of the dugout canoe when the crocodile grabbed her and took her under water.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Malaita province, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea said the deceased was accompanied by two other females when the sad incident occurred.

Police in Auki have arrested a 37-year-old male person for intimidating workers and damaging hospital properties at Kilufii Hospital recently.

It was alleged that the suspect, who was drunk at the time, entered the outpatient room and started to threaten two nurses on duty.

The suspect further alleged to continue by stepping on the hospital patient scale and kicking the doors and walls of the room.

Auki police have arrested a 27-year-old male person for threatening a 50-year-old male person with a bush knife at Muskui village in North Malaita recently.

It was alleged that the suspect armed himself with a bush knife and stones and swore at the victim.

After the incident, the suspect, when under the influence of liquor, continued to threaten the community members of Muskui and even threw rocks at people in the village.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) operations centres in Choiseul and Western Provinces, along with the Provincial Disaster Committees (PDCs), were activated in response to the impacts of cyclone Maila affecting the western region of the Solomon Islands.

This activation is part of a coordinated effort to support the Provincial Emergency Operation Centres (PEOC) in responding to the current situation, particularly in Choiseul and Western Province.
