Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) this morning (23 August 2019) arrested a suspect in connection with the burning of two buildings at Tigoa in West Rennell, in the Rennell and Bellona Province on the night of 25 July 2019.

The suspect, a 29 age male person is being held at the Tigoa Police Station in West Rennell as arrangements are underway to transfer the suspect to Honiara where he will be formally charged.

Twelve officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have successfully completed a four-week training program organised by the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) in Port Moresby from 25 July to 21 August 2019

The course was facilitated following the RPNGC donating five Police motorcycles to the RSIPF earlier this year, as a result of downsizing from the APEC PNG 2018 operations. The donation and training is part of implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two Melanesian neighbours’ Police Forces in June 2019.

The next deployment of officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) to the western border with Papua New Guinea have left Honiara yesterday (19 August 2019) on the Patrol Boat LATA.

This new deployment will replace the other group of officers who have been stationed in the Shortland Islands for the past month. The deployment of officers of the Police Response Team (PRT) and others from Western and Choiseul provinces started at the beginning of this year as the first phase a strategy to secure the Solomon Islands side of the common border with Papua New Guinea.

Provincial Police Commanders (PPC) and the Senior Executive of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are participating in the three-day National Security Strategy (NSS) Summit being held in Honiara 20 – 22 August 2019.

The opening of the official program was held at the National Museum Auditorium in Honiara with the theme “Excelling together toward building a Prosperous, Safe and Secure Solomon Islands”. The Police Band of the RSIPF also took part during the official opening program.

The suspect in a murder incident at Aoto Village, in Utupua, Temotu Province on 13 January 2019, has been further remanded in custody following a mention appearance in the Magistrates Court at Lata on 16 August 2019.

The man in his 40’s has been remanded at the Lata Correctional Centre as police investigations continue into the incident. He will next appear in Court on 30 August 2019.

Shandra Berol Inaoyo, 21 years old from Santa Cruz in Temotu Province is one of the female police recruits who graduated from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) with a special award on 16 August 2019 at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara.
She was awarded the RSIPF Academy Fitness Award.

The Fitness award is given to recruits who excel in the RSIPF fitness tests. It includes physical fitness, outstanding participation in physical trainings and sports, hardworking, courageous and disciplined.

Three male defendants, all in their 30s, from Duff Islands in Temotu Province have been sentenced from nine to 11 months in imprisonment by a visiting Magistrate to Lata on 16 August 2019 after been found guilty of charges of assault causing actual bodily harm.

The charges relate to separate incidents which occurred on 1 August 2018, 10 December 2018 and 17 April 2019 at Kahula Village in the Duff Islands.

Officers of Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) in Honiara have arrested and charged a 42-year-old female for two counts of larceny by servant on 15 August 2019.

It is alleged that on 20 and 31 of April 2017, the suspect who was a bank teller at the Bank South Pacific (BSP) in Honiara stole total cash of $54,688.00 from the Naha SDA Primary School. It is alleged she took the cash and cheques when the head teacher at the School came to deposit the money into the school account at the Bank.
