Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Western Province are investigating a fire at Veneer factory (a timber yard) in the Arara area, close to Munda in Western Province. The fire is reported to have occurred around midday on Tuesday 16 April 2019.

Members of the public appreciate the awareness that Police officers in the National Crime Prevention Department are conducting at markets and other public gathering areas in Honiara as the country prepares for the election of the Prime Minister on 24 April 2019.

A team from the National Crime Prevention Department were out again today (16 April) visiting various locations in Honiara speaking with members of the public about the need to continue with the peaceful and safe environment like during the National General Election (NGE) period.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) reminds members of the public, all licenced premises and all bars in Honiara City of the liquor ban that will come into force on 23 and 24 April 2019 for the election of the Prime Minister.

The liquor ban is part of the Liquor Ban Order issued by the Caretaker Minister of Home Affairs, Ishmael Avui in Legal Notice No. 29 on 25 March 2019.

To ensure public safety, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will not permit any application for a procession or public gathering to be held in Honiara City as a lead up to the election of the Prime Minister on 24 April 2019.

This follows an application from a group of youth claiming to represent the youth of Honiara for a peaceful march through the capital city in connection with the election of a new Prime Minister.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Guadalcanal Province arrested five men on 14 April 2019 following an alleged attack on a church building with rocks while people were praying inside at Makina Village in East Guadalcanal.

The report alleged that the five men arrested were drunk. It was alleged that they carried out the attack following frustrations over their losing candidate in the National General Election on 3 April 2019.

“It is the experience of a life time. It was something else.”

That is how members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Aviation Support Team described their experience flying helicopters and a fixed aircraft from the Australia and New Zealand Defence Forces under the Combined Task Group (CTG) to assist the Electoral Commission and RSIPF with logistic support during the recent National General Election.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Guadalcanal Province are investigating an incident of car break-in at the Bonege beach, West Guadalcanal on 14 April 2019.

It is alleged that on 14 April 2019 at around 0900hrs the victim went diving at Bonege beach. He locked his car and went diving.

During that time, someone damaged his car screen and gained entry into the car and removed three black bags, one laptop and a drone.

The incident was reported to police and officers attended the scene.

Police in Kirakira, Makira Ulawa province have arrested a 40-year-old male in relation to a rape incident that occurred at Kaonasugu Village, Makira/ Ulawa Province on 11 April 2019.

The accused was arrested after the victim filed a report at Kirakira Police Station regarding the incident on 12 April 2019 and on the same day the accused was arrested.

It will be alleged in court that on the 11th of April 2019, the victim went after her parents who were drunk to her auntie’s home about 200 – 250 meters away from the main village and stayed there.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has officially thanked the New Zealand Defence Force in a ceremony today (11 April 2019) at the Rove Police Headquarters for their assistance during the National General Election (NGE).

The New Zealand Defence Force was part of the Combined Task Group which included the Australian Defence Force which assisted the RSIPF and the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission with contingency logistics support
