The Police National Traffic Department reports a slight drop in the number of reported traffic cases in Honiara during the first few weeks of January 2018.

“This is a very good outcome,” says Supervising Director of the Traffic Department, Staff Sergeant George Mouli.

Staff Sergeant Mouli explains, “During the first week of January 2018, we recorded a total of 49 cases mostly being for unlicensed motor vehicles followed by permitting unlicensed motor vehicle, careless driving and presence of alcohol in person’s blood.,”

A team of police officers from Kirakira Station, in Makira Ulawa Province successfully completed a week's tour of Ugi Island as part of the Crime Prevention Strategy; from 12 -16 January 2018.

Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “Following the arrest of two female teenagers over the festive season at Umara village led to the need for police to do more awareness talks.”

The Crime Records Office of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force has recorded 5,457 criminal cases throughout the country in 2017.

The record highlights various categories of crimes and in which the highest number of cases recorded was crime against person 1,812; statute offences 1,683; crime against property 1,430; public morality 120 cases and crime against lawful authority 412.

The Police Response Team (PRT) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has killed a total of three crocodiles during separate operations in the Western and Central Islands Provinces since 13 January 2018.

“Following the attack by a crocodile on a seven-year-old boy from Voloa Village last month, I requested the PRT to mount an operation in the area to get rid of the reptiles. The operation included setting up of crocodile traps and patrols,” says Supervising Provincial Police Commander, CIP, Inspector Hugo Maelasi.
