Students at the Kokeqolo and Dunde Community High Schools at Munda in the Western Province have been urged to see police as a friend as more officers will be deployed into the Province to provide security during the National General Election (NGE) on 3 April 2019.

As part of the community engagement in Western Province in preparation for the NGE Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) from Honiara and Gizo visited both Schools on 14 March 2019.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Guadalcanal Province conducted an awareness talk on the National General Election at the Kobito Market in the Aola area of East Central Guadalcanal on 9 March 2019.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Chief Superintendent Evelyn Thugea says, “During the awareness talk we highlighted the responsibilities of the RSIPF, responsibilities of registered voters and the public, election offences under the Electoral Act and penalties.

A 19-year-old male have been arrested by police officers in Gizo, Western Province on allegation of the rape of a six-year-old girl on Ranogga Island in January 2019.

Provincial Police Commander Western Province, Chief Superintendent, Mathias Lenialu says, “It is alleged that on an unknown date between 1 to 31 January 2019, the victim, who is a six-year-old girl, was out with her aunty to pick ngali nuts at a nearby bush. The defendant followed them to carry their bag of nuts.”

Various departments and units within the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) this week benefitted from training delivered by members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) on board HMAS Choules which was in Honiara on a three-day visit from 3 March 2019.

“ADF teams trained officers of the RSIPF in maritime firefighting, maritime damage control, land transport planning, first aid, radio communications, public relations, kitchen operations and hygiene as well as leadership,” says RSIPF Commissioner Matthew Varley.
