The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is assisting the Rennell and Bellona (RenBel) provincial government to investigate a vessel that has been transporting divers to do diving at the Indispensable Reef following the death of an Asian male person on 3 February 2019.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) for Provincial Police Joseph Manelugu says, “The diving activity at the Indispensable Reef may not have been known if the death of the Asian had not been reported to the police at the Tigoa Police Station in West Rennell.”

Police have arrested a fourth suspect on 6 February 2019 in connection with the alleged robbery at sea between Ngella and Guadalcanal Islands last month.

Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Matthew Varley says, “I would like to commend the effort by investigators from the National Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) and officers from Central Province for their commitment into the investigation which led to the arrest of the fourth suspect.”

Police in Gizo, Western Province have arrested and charged a male person in his 20’s for allegation of domestic violence on 1 February 2019 during an incident at Gizo.

Provincial Police Commander Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “It is alleged that on 1 February 2019, the victim, a female police officer went home after night shift duties. Upon arrival at home she sighted her partner drinking Island rum, which is a home brewed alcohol. She approached him that what he was doing is not right.”

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in the Western and Choiseul provinces are investigating gunshots allegedly fired in Maleai Village, in the Shortland Islands on 6 February 2019.

It is alleged that at about 6.30 am this morning (6 February 2019) a group of armed men believed to be from Bougainville went ashore at Maleai and discharged firearms.

Police at the Henderson Police Station in Guadalcanal Province have arrested a 33-year-old man for the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in a cocoa plantation at K-G Seven in the Tenaru area of Central Guadalcanal on 27 January 2019.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixson Manetoga says, “It is alleged the defendant showed his private part to the victim and grabbed her and laid her on the ground in the cocoa plantation and had sexual intercourse with the victim.”

Officers from the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) Kukum Traffic Centre are investigating a collision between two vehicles on the Kukum Highway at the road junction leading up to the Florence Young School in East Honiara on 5 February 2019.

Director of the RSIPF Traffic Department, Superintendent Fredrick Satu says, “My officers attended a report of the collision of the two vehicles. One of the driver was tested with random breath testing (RBT) at the spot but was negative while the other driver allegedly escaped police after being taken for medical attention.”

Police in Guadalcanal is investigating a fatal logging accident involving two men at the Vavale Logging Camp in East Central Guadalcanal on 2 February 2019.

The fatal accident involved a Malaysian national who worked as a bulldozer operator and a local Solomon Islander who worked as a crew at the logging camp.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixson Manetoga says, “The local male person is from Toanaboko Village.”
