Police at Henderson Police Station in Guadalcanal Province are investigating an attack on four men at Naro Village in West Guadalcanal on 25 April 2018.

It is alleged a 20-year-old man armed with a bush knife attacked four other men at Naro Village on the night of 25 April 2018. It is further alleged that one of the four men, a 27-year-year old, sustained an injury to his left hand during the attack.

It is also alleged that as a result of the attack, the other three men who have been lucky not to be injured retaliated and bashed up the alleged attacker injuring him.

The roll out of the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) Crime Prevention Strategy throughout the provinces will be boosted with the presentation of 10 sets of a public address system (PA) to the provincial police commanders at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara on 1 April 2018.

RSIPF Deputy Commissioner (DC) Operations, Gabriel Manelusi handed over the sets of the PA system to the provincial police commanders (PPC’s) during the PPC’s Conference currently underway in Honiara.

The National Traffic Department of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force has reported a slight decrease in traffic cases recorded in Honiara for the past week.

“For the previous week we recorded a total of 26 cases reported to Police whereas for last week only 22 cases were reported,” says Inspector Brian Surimalefo, Acting Director National Traffic Department.

Fourteen officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) from nine provincial police stations are attending a five-day Train-the-Trainers workshop on the Crime Prevention Strategy in Honiara from 30 April to 4 May 2018.

“The workshop is to develop the skills of police officers from the nine provinces in the country to mentor their staff in everyday prevention policing and problem solving,” says Supervising Assistant Commissioner, National Capital and Crime Prevention, Solomon Sisimia.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team will conduct a live demolition of bombs at Hells Point, in the Alligator Creek East of Honiara on Thursday 03 May 2018.

Officer In-charge (OIC) of EOD, Inspector Clifford Tunuki says, “The Hells Point Demolition Range in Central Guadalcanal area will be active from 8am to 2pm on 03 May 2018.”

The Minister for Police, National Security and Correctional Services, the Hon. Moses Garu is today leading the Solomon Islands Delegation to the 3rd Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Police Minister’s Meeting in Kokopo, East New Britain, Papua New Guinea.

The delegation comprises of the Commissioner of Police Matthew Varley, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services Karen Galokale, the Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea Barnabas Anga and Chief of Staff to the RSIPF Commissioner Evelyn Thugea.

Provincial Police Commanders and Directors of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force are attending their annual conference for this year at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara from 30 April to 5 May 2018 with the theme “Drivers of change through Community Partnership”.

The conference will focus on the police results for the past year and develop departmental and provincial business plans for the year ahead. They will also take part in refresher training on Command Control and Coordination (C3) and re-qualify in Operational Safety Training (OST).

Police officers in Taro, Choiseul Province have arrested a German national for illegally entering Solomon Islands through the Solomon Islands Papua New Guinea (PNG) border on Sunday 29 April 2018.

“The accused was arrested after Police in Taro was informed of his presence at Supizae Island, near Taro Station on 26 April 2018,” says Operations Manager, Taro Police Station, Senior Sergeant Rolland Lapo.

He adds: “Police then invited him to Taro police station for questioning and at the same time notified the Immigration Department.”

Police at Lata in the Temotu Province are investigating a road block allegedly erected on a road leading to the Neano’ole Ward on Santa Cruz Island on 22 April 2018 by a group of people opposed to a prospecting licence issued to an overseas company.

The road block was erected to stop a company representative from visiting the area where prospecting will take place.
