Man arrested for attempted murder incident in Malaita province

Auki police have arrested a 28-year-old male suspect for an alleged attempted murder incident at Lalana village in the Langalanga lagoon on November 7, 2024.

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) Commissioner, Mr. Mostyn Mangau, said several attempts have been made to apprehend the suspect, but he escaped police up on arrival.

Commissioner Mangau said it was alleged that the suspect entered his big sister’s room with a rope on his hand and tied around his sister’s neck while she was asleep with the intention to kill her.

Auki police start festive operation

Auki Police this week have commenced its police festive season operation with few arrests and warnings.

The operation targeted kwaso (homebrew), illegal gambling, and provided high-visibility patrols in the Auki township area.

During the operation, kwaso raids have been conducted at Kilufii, Kwalabusu, Ararame, Fiu, Aimela, and Teak areas.

According to Commissioner Mr. Mostyn Mangau, the operation resulted in the arrest and charging of three suspects and the strong warning and release of seven others.

A 76-year-old grandfather was arrested for raping three girls in Choiseul province

Taro police have arrested a 76-year-old grandfather for alleged rape in a community in East Choiseul on 6 November 2024.

The grandfather, who was a person of trust, committed the offence with three different victims ageing eight, nine, and twelve years on separate occasions.

It was alleged that the suspect invited the victims to his house before committing the crime. After committing the crime, the suspect threatens the victims not to inform their parents about the incident.

56-year-old charged for rape in Choiseul province

A 56-year-old businessman was arrested on 6 November 2024 by Taro police for raping a 16-year-old girl at a village in North West Choiseul recently.

Police Commissioner Mr. Mostyn Mangau said it was alleged that the suspect raped the victim on different occasions in the month of August 2024.

Commissioner Mangau said during those rape incidents, the victim shouted and struggled to free herself but failed as the suspect overpowered her.

Mr. Mangau said the victim reported the matter to a family member, and community leaders reported the matter to the police.

25-year-old charged for rape in Choiseul province

Taro Police have arrested a 25-year-old male suspect on 6 November 2024 for raping a 14-year-old girl at a logging camp in Northwest Choiseul.

Police Commissioner Mostyn Mangau said it was alleged that the suspect raped the victim on different occasions in different locations.

Commissioner Mangau said this rape incident is sad; the victim of this rape incident is a student who was residing with her parents at the logging camp when the incident happened.”

Warning on illegal sale of beer in Makira-Ulawa Province

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Makira-Ulawa Province has issued a strong warning to the Makira-Ulawa people of the consequences of the illegal sale of alcohol ahead of the upcoming festive season.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai, said over the last few years police have arrested and charged individuals for selling alcohol without a license.

Two SIPSP advisors welcomed recently

The New Zealand Police have deployed two new advisors to the Solomon Islands under the Solomon Islands Police Support Programme (SIPSP) recently and will be here for a year.

The advisors will work alongside our RSIPF colleagues as part of the National Crime Prevention Department.

The NZ advisors support and assist the RSIPF staff with all aspects of training and crime prevention initiatives to reduce harm and victimisation in the community.

Senior Sergeant Beth Purcell is from Levin in New Zealand and specializes in community and prevention work with her community.

Police arrest a 15-year-old male suspect for stealing money belongs to a women’s group in Malaita Province

Police in Auki have arrested a 15-year-old male suspect for stealing $5,000 cash belonging to Bethel Women’s Group in Malaita province.

The suspect was arrested at Koa village in West Kwaraáe on 6 November 2024 after the matter was reported to Auki police.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Chief Superintendent, Tex Tafoa, said the money has been kept in a safe box with the suspect’s mother at home as she is a member of the group.

Man charged with rape in Makira-Ulawa Province

A 60-year-old man has been charged for raping a 13-year-old girl at a logging camp in West Makira.

It was alleged that the suspect had invited the victim with her aunty to spend the night with him, and he allegedly raped the victim after having beer with them.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai, said the defendant took advantage of the drinking situation and forced the victim to have sexual intercourse with him.

Police arrest eight suspects during investigation operation in Isabel Province

Buala police have arrested eight suspects during an investigation operation on Hograno, Katova, Kia, and Havulei (HKKH) constituencies in Isabel province recently.

The nine-day investigation operation was targeted for new reported cases during the month of October 2024.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Isabel Province, Inspector Harry Vanosi, said a total of eight new cases were registered and completed during the investigation operation, while one case is still active on investigation.
