Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Auki and Atori have arrested two male suspects in relation to the burning down of a two storey building at Onelafa Community High School in East Fataleka, Malaita Province.

The first suspect was arrested and already in Auki Correctional facilities waiting for his trial while the latest arrest was done yesterday (28 September 2023).

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent Lelie Kili said the second suspect is a teacher by profession who had planned the burning of the classroom.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) in Taro have charged and remanded a 46 years old father with incest contrary to section 163 (1) (a) penal code (Amendment) (Sexual offences) Act 2016.

The victim is a 17 years-old biological daughter of the defendant. The first incident occurred in June 2020 when the victim was 15 years-old.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Auki Police Station in Malaita Province are investigating the death of a 40-year-old male person who was found dead in his bed at his home in Langa langa lagoon on 26 September 2023.

RSIPF Supervising Commissioner Juanita Matanga says, “According to the report, around 1pm in the afternoon, police received a report and went to the location which then confirmed that the deceased was dead.”

Police in Taro, Choiseul Province have arrested and charged a 47-year-old male suspect for raping a 15 year-old girl.

The victim and defendant of this rape incident are related and they reside at the same village in Northwest Choiseul.

Supervising Police Commissioner Ms. Juanita Matanga during the Commissioner weekly conference said according to the initial report the incident occurred once in 2021 while his wife left home.

Auki police are investigating a suicide incident at Kunu area in Central Kwaraáe that has happened on 25 September 2023.

Supervising RSIPF Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga during weekly Commissioner Press Conference says, “It was alleged that a 16-year-old girl hung herself with a rope at their house.”

Supervising Commissioner Ms. Matanga says, “The deceased tied the rope around her neck with a cross beam and hung herself. The female deceased is a form three student of Aligegeo provincial secondary school.”

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) is preparing well for the Pacific Games 2023 (PG23).

Supervising Commissioner Ms. Juanita Matanga said during the police media conference today (28 September 2023) in front of media reporters this morning.

Commissioner Matanga said, “As part of the security preparation for the PG23 police will continue to engage in Honiara as the hosting capital with the support of our security partners.”

Ms. Matanga said, “Security patrols will be mounted both on land, sea and air during the PG23 to ensure the safety of the event.”

The National Traffic Department (NTD) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in a joint law enforcement operation on 22 September have detained twelve vehicles.

Director NTD, Superintendent William Foufaka says, “This is part of the safe green games operation conducted by the police and other law enforcement in preparation towards the Pacific Games 2023 (PG23) that will be hosted in November.”

New Zealand (NZ) Police attached to the Solomon Islands Police Support Programme (SIPDP) continue to implement the 5 Step Mindset training programme for the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF).

NZ Police working alongside the National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) officers and Learning and Development officers from the RSIPF have developed the training to assist the RSIPF to be the best that they can be every day.

The community policing unit of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Buala police station in Isabel Province will roll out an awareness talks program in Gao-Bugotu constituency.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Isabel Province, Sergeant (Sgt) John Lokumana says, “This is part of the community engagement plan where my police officers are mandated to bring trust and confidence to our people.”

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team will be conducting bomb/ UXO operations in the Choiseul Province at 9am to 4pm from 27th to 29th September 2023.

The tasks will be carried out specifically in the areas of Taro, Choiseul Bay Provincial Secondary School, Tarekukure, Vuala log pond and Solovae village.
