The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Department will conduct planned bomb blast operations in Western Province and Choiseul Province as part of ongoing efforts to safely dispose of unexploded ordnance (UXO).

In Western Province, the operations will be carried out in Munda and the surrounding communities and islands from Friday, 6 February to Thursday, 12 February 2026. The activities will take place daily between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Taro police have arrested two young male suspects for the theft incident of a 40-horsepower Outboard Motor (OBM) engine at Supizae in Choiseul Province on 28 January 2026.

It was alleged that two suspects removed the engine from the boat anchored in front of the owner’s residence in the early hours of 28 January 2026.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) of Choiseul Province, Inspector Ronald Chite, said the arrests were made after a case was launched with Taro police on the same day.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has reaffirmed its role in maintaining public safety and preventing escalation following a recent incident at the Gold Ridge Mine in Guadalcanal recently.

On the night of 20 January 2026, an arson was carried out on heavy machinery at the mine site, resulting in damage to a number of company assets.

Some police officers and a civilian staff of the company sustained injuries from the incident. Police responded promptly, secured the area, and ensured the incident did not escalate or pose further risk to surrounding communities.

Eight officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) left the country to participate in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Challenge, which will happen from 7 to 11 February 2026.

The UAE SWAT Challenge aims to strengthen cooperation between tactical teams, showcase the latest international practices in rapid response and intervention operations, and measure readiness in dealing with complex and demanding scenarios.

A delegation from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), supported by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) through the RSIPF & AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP), recently completed a landmark exchange training and research program in New Zealand to enhance the capabilities of the RSIPF’s Drone Support Unit (DSU).

Acting Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) Mr. Mathias Lenialu calls on any victim of the alleged police misconduct at Gold Ridge to come forward with evidence and report it to the Professional Standards Internal Investigation Department (PSII).

The call came after allegations were leveled against police for heavy-handedness that triggered the unrest at GRML recently.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Gizo in Western Province have arrested and charged four suspects for criminal trespass that led to the attempted murder of a 20-year-old male victim at Jamia village in Vella La Vella, Western Province (WP).

Acting Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province Superintendent Wilken Miriki says, “The suspects, who are from different villages, went to Jamia village on 23 January 2023 and caused a disturbance.”

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is appealing to all communities in and around Honiara to respect one another and maintain peace within their neighbourhoods on a daily basis.

It has come to the attention of police that there has been an increase in cases where community members, mostly during weekends, fail to respect one another by causing unnecessary noise late into the night and morning.

These disturbances commonly involve shouting and the playing of loud music through boom boxes (portable speakers).

A man has died following a tragic weather-related incident in Noro, Western Province, on the afternoon of Tuesday, 27 January 2026.

Police say the incident occurred at around 2:00pm when a large tree collapsed onto a leaf-built residential dwelling during severe weather conditions affecting the area. The adult male occupant of the house sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident.
