The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ian Vaevaso would like to inform the general public that there will be no curfew on the election of the new Prime Minister on 2 May 2024 as speculated on social media.

Operation Commander, Deputy Commissioner (DC) National Security and Operation Support Mr. Vaevaso said it advisable to be prepared should police issue any instruction for possible curfew.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Solomons' International Assistance Force (SIAF) are bolstering their security operations in Honiara ahead of tomorrow's (2 May) Prime Ministerial election.

The RSIPF and SIAF are deploying an array of measures to ensure the safety and security of Honiara residents and properties.

RSIPF and SIAF officers have increased their foot and vehicle patrols throughout Honiara. This is to maintain Police high visibility and provide immediate assistance if required.

The National Parliament of Solomon Islands will be closed for public access during the Election of Prime Minister while police will step up security in and around the Parliament area during Election of the Prime Minister on 2 May 2024.

Acting (Ag) Clerk of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands Mr. Jefferson Hallu clarifies the election of the Prime Minister is not a parliamentary meeting, although it is conducted on the floor of Parliament. The Constitution defines it as ‘a meeting of members’ (See Schedule 2 of the Constitution).

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have met with community leaders in Honiara as part of community engagement in preparation for the election of the prime minister.

The meeting was conducted today (29 April 2024) at Rove police club with leaders from East Honiara, Central Honiara and West Honiara. The leaders attended the meeting with representatives from churches, communities, women’s group and youths.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) wishes to inform the public that the liquor ban, initially imposed from April 16th to April 26th, has been extended.

The new liquor ban order is effective as of 26 April to 15 May 2024. The Liquor Ban Order 2024 was enacted by the then caretaker Minister for Home Affairs, Christopher Laore, under section 82(1) of the Liquor Act (Cap.144).

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department (EODD) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) were boosted with a new medium excavator today (26 April 2024) at Hells Point in Guadalcanal Province.

The new excavator cost about SBD 2.5 million and was handed over to EODD by the Japanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Miwa Yosiaki. The handing over program happened in the presence of the EODD officers and the supplier of the excavator.

A joint patrol conducted by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Solomons’ International Assistance Force (SIAF) has resulted in the arrest of a man who allegedly committed an assault and the confiscation of a weapon (knife) from a separate member of the group who were under the influence of alcohol.

RSIPF and SIAF officers who involved in a joint patrol through Honiara swiftly responded to reports of an assault occurring at the Honiara Central Market. The alleged perpetrator was promptly arrested for further investigation.

A 35-year-old male suspect cut off his elder brother's neck with a bush knife at Hao village in Makira-Ulawa province on 10 April 2024.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Kirakira have formally arrested the suspect, dealt with and remand him at Kirakira Correctional centre while investigation continues.

It was alleged that the suspect had an argument with his 40-year-old elder brother over a nali nut tree which the suspect wanted to mill the tree for timber for his house while the deceased did not allow it.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested 18 suspects in relation to election results in Western Province.

From the 18 suspects arrested 10 suspects were arrested at Aleang village in Shortland Islands on 21 April 2024 while the other eight suspects were arrested at Maravari village in South Vela La Vela on 22 April 2024.
