Taro police have arrested a drunk husband for bashing his wife with a piece of iron in a village in South Choiseul recently.

It was alleged that the husband is not happy with his wife due to some unwanted behaviours he observed during the New Year’s celebration.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Berry Pogesopa, said the suspect struck the victim with the iron on her hand and later on her head, which she sustains injury.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has bid farewell to the Australian Defence Force (ADF)’s advisor, Colonel Justin Bywater, on 9th January 2025.

Senior members of the RSIPF executive and the RSIPF & AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) gathered at a brief ceremony at the Rove police headquarters to farewell Colonel Bywater.

Colonel Bywater was deployed into the country in 2021 and has since then worked alongside the RSIPF under the ADF’s Defence Cooperation Program (DCP).

On January 10, 2025, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers attended an insight exchange program held by the China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) under the theme “Join Hands and Embrace Growth for a Shared Future.”

The date (10th January) marks the Chinese People’s Police Day in China, as 110—the emergency service number in China, the same as 999 in the Solomon Islands—has become a symbol of the Chinese police. It is observed annually in China to recognise the dedication of police in safeguarding national security and serving the people.

Taro police have arrested a 43-year-old male suspect for an alleged attempted murder of a 19-year-old girl in Northwest Choiseul recently.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Berry Pogesopa, said it was alleged that the suspect repeatedly punched the victim on her forehead and repeatedly hit the victim’s head against the post of a graveyard house.

PPC Pogesopa said the suspect then later pulled the victim’s hair and pushed her to the ground using his hands and stepped on her back.

Police in Auki have arrested a suspect who cut a victim in his 20s with a bush knife early this morning at Maofa village in West Kwara’ae, Malaita Province.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Chief Superintendent Tex Tafoa, said it was alleged that the suspect entered the victim’s house and attacked him several times with a bush knife.

PPC Tafoa said the victim was asleep at the time of the incident, woke up when the suspect broke the door and entered the house. The victim tries to defend himself but is unable to withstand the attack.

Taro police have arrested a 36-year-old and a 43-year-old male suspect for assaulting a 24-year-old male victim recently at Taro in Choiseul Province.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Berry Pogesopa, says, “The incident occurred at Sunset Lodge at night when the suspects accused the victim of taking phone belongings to one of the suspects.”

PPC Pogesopa says, “The two suspects and the victim were under the influence of liquor when the incident happened. They had an argument, and later two suspects started kicking and hitting the victim.”

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Kirakira, Makira/Ulawa Province, have conducted a leadership training for the youth of West Wainoni Catholic Parish in Makira/Ulawa Province recently.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai, says, “This initiative is part of the crime prevention strategy and the festive season operations. The training was organised in response to a request from the Catholic parish priest of the West Wainoni Parish in East Makira.”

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) held a police family activity at the Rove Headquarters recently.

The event brought together about 150 children and their family members to celebrate Christmas and the New Year while promoting cross-cultural exchange and understanding.

The event featured a calligraphy workshop, a tea ceremony experience, and a Chinese movie screening, which provided participants the opportunities to explore and appreciate Chinese culture.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is appealing to the victims of the alleged demand for the $200.00 commission on police clearance to come forward to the Professional Standard Internal Investigation (PSII) of the RSIPF.

Your police-RSIPF acknowledge the author of the news article and call on the victims to come forward and provide their statements to PSII so that a proper investigation is carried out and deal with those officers involved.

A twenty-member delegation team from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correction Service (MPNCS) has completed a two-week seminar on criminal investigation and cultural exchange in China from 2 to 16 December 2024.

The two-week seminar is hosted by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) through Fujian Provincial Public Security Department, executed by China-Pacific Island Countries Police Training Centre (CPPTC) in Fujian, and coordinated by the China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) in Honiara.
