The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) and the RSIPF-Australian Federal Police (AFP) Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) in cooperation with the National Community Police Department of the RSIPF has rolled out copen awareness programs in Honiara schools.

The awareness program, which comes under the RAPPP Health and Wellbeing and jointly driven by RSIPF, targets primary and secondary schools and the surrounding communities in Honiara. The first program was delivered to Koloale Community High School (KCHS) on 1 March 2023.

The Community Policing Team of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Lata Police Station conducted refresher training for Crime Prevention Committee (CPC) representatives of Menevi village at Temotu Province on 12 March 2023.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Temotu Province, Superintendent James Toaki says, “The training is to educate CPC representatives to understand their roles and duties in the community when executing duties. And to remind them of the great responsibilities entrusted upon them for the good of their community.”

Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Capital and Crime Prevention Simpson Pogeava acknowledged the gifting of a range of sporting equipment to the RSIPF from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Defence Force (ADF) members at Rove Police Head Quarters on 13 March 2023.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team will conduct a live demolition of bombs at Hells Point, in the Alligator Creek area East of Honiara on Wednesday 15 March 2023.

Officer In-charge (OIC) of EOD, Inspector Clifford Tunuki says, “The Hells Point Demolition Range in Central Guadalcanal will be active from 8am to 1pm (15 March 2023).”

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are conducting bomb-blast operations in Western Province, which have started on 11 and will finish on 17 March 2023.

The tasks carried out at Pate Island, Munda and surrounding New Georgia Island. Especially at Teme, Biubiu, Jack Harbour and surrounding communities in Kolombangara Island.

Officer In-charge (OIC) of the RSIPF EOD team, Inspector Clifford Tunuki says, “It is advisable for those mentioned communities to stay away from the cordoned areas for safety purposes.”

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at National Traffic Department (NTD) are investigating the fatal accident that occurred in front of Kukum Traffic Police Station that involved a motorbike and a caldina car last week.

Director National Traffic Department, Superintendent William Foufaka says, “It was alleged that a motorbike was travelling Westerly direction when it collided with a Caldina car.”

Officers of the National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD), Learning and Development (L & D) of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) with the assistance of New Zealand Police officers of the Solomon Island Policing Support Programme (SIPSP) delivered the 5 Step Mind Set Training to RSIPF stationed in Makira-Ulawa Province.

The National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) are investigating the front page article with the title ‘top secret out’.

Director NCID, Superintendent Michael Bole said the article was published in Solomon Star newspaper issue 8391 on 4 March 2023 by Alfred Sasako.

Superintendent Bole said a task force has been established to investigate the Solomon Star article. The NCID are on top of the issues. An official enquiry has been established.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has provided the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Forensic Unit with specialist equipment and consumables to support the investigative capability of the RSIPF.

AFP advisors working with the RSIPF and AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) previously helped establish digital forensic and drug testing capabilities within the Forensic Unit.

Recently representatives of the Australian Attorney-General’s Department (AGD) travelled to Honiara, Solomon Islands, to deliver mutual legal assistance training.

Mutual legal assistance is the legal process used to obtain evidence from foreign countries for formal use in a criminal investigation or prosecution – an essential part of the toolkit for tackling transnational crime.
