Australian Federal Police (AFP) advisors marked Christmas Day by sharing Christmas meal packs with RSIPF officers who remained on duty across police stations in Honiara.

Christmas Day is traditionally a time for families to gather and celebrate together. However, RSIPF officers continued to work throughout the day to maintain public safety, respond to incidents, and ensure communities could celebrate the festive season peacefully.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Armoury Logistics Team (ARMLOT) has received a major upgrade through the RSIPF and AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP), with additional support from the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The improvements make the armoury safer, more organised, and better equipped to support police operations.

The upgraded facility now includes better work areas, secure storage, updated systems, and new tools that help officers manage weapons safely and efficiently.

The visits aimed to strengthen relationships with local communities, raise awareness on critical safety issues, and promote proactive measures to reduce crime, particularly during the festive season.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has received two speedboats from the People's Republic of China (PRC) at the Aola base on 13 January 2026.

The speedboat worth SBD 3.5 million dollars was shipped from China and handed over to the RSIPF in the presence of Honourable Minister of Police, National Security, and Correctional Services and PRC’s Ambassador to Solomon Islands H.E. Cai Weiming.

A certificate of handing over was signed between Acting Commissioner of the RSIPF Mr. Mathias Lenialu and China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) Commissioner Mr. Liu Shenghuang.

Police are appealing to the wife of a police officer who allegedly mistreated her to open a case against her husband for further investigation.

The appeal came after a post went viral on social media about her wife, who allegedly kicked her out from their house.

RSIPF Acting Commissioner Mr. Mathias Lenialu said this is really a sad situation that demands the wife to come forward and file a complaint with police so that police can investigate it properly.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and Australian Federal Police (AFP) Partnership Program (RAPPP), through its Health, Welfare and Community Engagement (HWCE) Team, conducted community engagement activities in Kakara Community, Kilusakwalo Village, and Lilisiana within Central Kwara’ae and Auki Langalanga Constituency during the recent festive season.

These engagements follow similar visits previously hosted by RAPPP in Central and Western Provinces, aimed at strengthening policing partnerships across the Solomon Islands.

Honiara, Solomon Islands – 5 January 2025: The Honiara Magistrates Court has delivered a landmark sentencing, sentencing a former school teacher from Malaita Province to four years’ imprisonment for embezzlement involving mistakenly deposited public funds on 5 January 2026.
The court reaffirmed a critical legal principle: money mistakenly deposited into an individual’s account does not belong to them, and knowingly using it constitutes theft.

A 32-year-old male suspect has been arrested for murdering a 15-year-old boy at Kuava village in Vela La Vela, Western Province (WP), on 3 January 2026.

Supervising Assistant Commissioner (AC) Provincial Mr. Tex Tafoa said the deceased was a key police witness to a murder incident that occurred back in December 2024.

Supervising AC Tafoa said the deceased, with two other boys from the same village, went to the defendant’s house when the incident occurred.

Three police vehicles were rocked on New Year's Eve in Honiara when patrolling and attending to police reports.

Naha Police responded to a report of domestic violence at a residence in Ferakusia in east Honiara when a suspect rocked its left mirror.

A police officer also sustained an injury on his back when attending to a report at Ferakusia, but the officer is in stable condition. The suspect of domestic violence escaped upon police arrival and rocked the police vehicle.

The outgoing Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mostyn Mangau, during his farewell parade at Rove police headquarters today (31 December 2025), encouraged the new Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mathias Lenialu, to lead with fairness and wisdom.

Outgoing Commissioner Mangau said the challenges ahead are real, but so too are the opportunities to build a stronger, more resilient police force. As I pass forward this responsibility, I do it with deep appreciation for the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) mission and transformational journey.
