The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), on Monday 5 September 2022, successfully put off a fire that almost turn the SIM building at town ground to ash.

This building also accommodates the University of the South Pacific (USP) Honiara Campus classes.

An electrical fault in a switchboard sparked a fire inside the building. The RSIPF confirmed a phone call alerted its Fire and Rescue Service of the fire.

About 10 firefighters from the RSIPF Fire and Rescue Service and two fire trucks were involved in a swift response.

Police are investigating the death of a man during a card game known as play pass at Lengakiki in the capital of Honiara on 2 September 2022.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Central Police Station Superintendent Flotilda Sabino said the incident happened between 11:00 and 12:00 pm on Friday night.

Superintendent Sabino said the police have identified the alleged suspect and are currently investigating the matter. The suspect of the killing incident is from Malaita Province.

The number of police women in the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has increased over the past years.

A small but growing percentage of women police officers are in the leadership roles with just over a third in senior executive roles.

Professional development is one of RSIPF strategic priorities to further develop, upskill and upgrade officers to keep strengthening the RSIPF.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), with the support of members of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) who are part of the Solomons’ International Assistance Force (SIAF), continued to maintain high visibility patrols across Honiara in ensuring the safety of its people, institutions and infrastructures.

Under RSIPF’s Operation Parliament, there will be ongoing high visibility patrols in Honiara and police officers going out to engaged with communities. Communities are essential in assisting RSIPF in detecting, preventing and disrupting criminal activities.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) on 31 August 2022 have farewelled Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) and Australian Federal Police (AFP) Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) Advisor James David Miller after serving years with the Program.

RSIPF Commissioner Mr Mostyn Mangau acknowledged and greatly appreciated the service rendered by RAPPP Advisor during the past years in Solomon Islands.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) farewell one of its long serving officers, late Sergeant Rockson Fakatau.

Late Fakatau serves the RSIPF for 29 years following his recruitment to the Police Field Force (PFF) in 1993 and eventually appointed as Police Constable in 1995.

When transferred to the Gizo Police Station, late Sgt Fakatau also held the position of Shift Supervisor in the Station.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Tulagi are investigating a suicide incident of a 30-year-old female person at Mabulu settlement in Small Ngella.

RSIPF Commissioner Mr Mostyn Mangau said the suicide incident happened on 28 August 2022 at the home of the deceased where she allegedly hung herself with a linen cloth (lavalava).

Commissioner Mangau said the deceased tied a linen cloth on the cross-beam brace on the roof of her house and tied up her neck and hung herself.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested a 38-year-old father for allegedly raping his own biological daughter in east central Guadalcanal.

RSIPF Commissioner Mr Mostyn Mangau said the rape incident happened since last year 2021 and reported to police on 12 August 2022.

Commissioner Mangau said it was alleged that the rape incident happened in different dates and times since last year 2021. After police received the report they went to the village of the suspect and arrested the suspect.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have destroyed a total 38 Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) in Taro, Choiseul Province this week.

Commissioner RSIPF Mr Mostyn Mangau said the EOD team managed to render safe those UXOs found during the clearance work on the Taro airstrip in the past weeks. UXOs render safe were ranging from projectiles, mortar bombs and bombs.

Commissioner Mangau said before the render safe operation happened the EOD team sought consent from the Choiseul provincial government to destroy those UXOs.

A total of 11 investigators of the National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have refreshed their investigation capabilities on crime investigation in a week-long seminar.

The China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) successfully hosted a Criminal Investigation Seminar for the investigators from different units within the NCID in Rove police headquarters from 22 to 26 August 2022.
