Police build strong network with Borderline Communities

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force yesterday discussed with Borderline Community Chiefs on issues occurred in their communities.

A total of 20 Chiefs and Community leaders from different small communities within Borderline area attended a one day discussion to further strengthening its dialogue with the Police.

During the discussion they formed in to three groups to identify the issues and present to the participants.

The issues discussed ranged from illegal selling and brewing of kwaso (home brew) and other anti-social behaviours etc.

A day discussion dwells on some issues affecting the youths which the participants come up with some recommendation and ideas that could help address the issues.

According Deputy Commissioner Mr. Gabriel Manelusi said, “The roles and responsibilities of police and the Chiefs must link with each other. As leaders we need to recognise each other’s roles.”

Mr. Manelusi said, “As leaders in our country we need to step up and move forward and not be afraid to do so.”

He said, “The Police are looking to continually working with the Community Leaders as they play an important role in leading their Communities.”
“Community Leaders often play a role as mediators in confrontations and help maintain the community-police relations.” Mr. Manelusi said
