A new portfolio has been created inside the internal structure of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF)

At the same time, the Police and Prison Service Commission has endorsed the promotion of 61 officers to the ranks of Inspector, Superintendent, Chief Superintendent and Assistant Commissioner.

The new portfolio created will be headed by a new Assistant Commissioner, Crime and will include the National Intelligence, National Crime Investigations, Police Prosecution, Criminal Records, Transnational Crime, Forensics, National Exhibits Registry and the Interpol National Central Bureau (proposed). Chief Superintendent Ian Vaevaso will be the new Assistant Commissioner, Crime.

RSIPF Commissioner, Matthew Varley explains: “The changes to the internal structure are to strengthen the RSIPF following RAMSI’s departure and ensure are in a strong position to deliver the RSIPF Capability Plan and the Crime Prevention Strategy.”

A review of the RSIPF structure identified opportunities to realign existing departments in line with the operational environment.

“One of the issues identified is strengthening the investigations and intelligence area to increase the RSIPF’s ability to deal with serious crime and security risks. The increasing scale and complexity of investigations being undertaken by the RSIPF is clearly evident in recent times. Examples are the recent homicides, transnational crimes and serious fraud cases, as well as escalating work in the serious crime and corruption space,” said Commissioner Varley.

Among the 61 promotions is, Chief Superintendent, Mr. Joseph Manelugu who has been confirmed as Assistant Commissioner, Provincial.

On the promotions, Commissioner of Police Mr. Matthew Varley said: “I am pleased to announce the promotions, which have been recently endorsed by the Police and Prison Service Commission. These promotions are very important to strengthen our leadership ranks in the RSIPF and help us guide the organisation into the future.”

“To all officers who have been promoted, I extend my full congratulations to you and I look forward to welcoming you to the senior leadership team of the RSIPF,” Commissioner Varley said.
