Police investigate death of 61 year-old male on Guadalcanal

Police in Guadalcanal Province have reported the death of a 61-year-old male at a village in the Tina area of Central Guadalcanal after being attacked by a wild pig yesterday 27 November 2017.

It was alleged the deceased was trying to assist two other men to kill the wild pig which was trapped in the bush. The two other men tried to shoot the wild pig with spears but were unsuccessful. They had gone to find some stones when the deceased took a knife and approached the pig.

The two men only heard a loud scream as they were on their way back to where the wild pig was trapped. On arrival they saw the deceased was injured with the pig still trapped.

Attempts to save the man were unsuccessful, allegedly due to heavy loss of blood.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixon Manetoga says, “Close relatives and family members of the deceased informed the police that they were satisfied with the cause of death and they did not wish for the body to be medically examine (post mortem) by a pathologist.”

“My sympathy and condolence to the families of the deceased and I respect the decision the relatives have made for the body not to be examined by a pathologist,” says Superintendent Manetoga.
